  • My First Bicycle Tour

Since I leave for my Oregon coast bicycle tour in a couple of days, I thought I’d share the (not quite so flawless) experience behind my first multi day bicycle tour.

  • Delayed at the Airport

I’m here at the airport, delayed for a flight to my “side destination” because continuing on to the Oregon coast bicycle tour. Though at least after the storms pass through this week, it should be great weather next week!

  • Eye-Fi Wi-Fi SD Card Test

Hooray, I got the $20 Eye-Fi SD Card in the mail today, just in time for the trip!

  • Shipping the Gear (and an iPhone test post)

Today is the day I shipped my bike and gear to the ride start. Why ship everything? Because during my initial planning, I didn’t think through the consequences of chaining this trip after another trip. No use paying double airline baggage fees… That said, Amtrak Express is the best kept secret for shipping a bike.…

  • Final Preparations and Shakedown Ride

I’m off to the Oregon coast soon for a bicycle tour in July. With this post I am now in “trip mode” and so now the blog posts will automatically update Facebook and Twitter  (using Simple Facebook Connect and WordTwit) for ease of updating on the road. I couldn’t resist making last minute changes to the…

  • Day 7 – San Francisco, CA – 40 miles

Did I mention that the cable for my bike computer/speedometer was broken when I pulled the bike out of the box in Crescent City? Since I also left my Garmin at home (one less thing to have to charge on the road), I was flying blind on speed and distance the whole trip, relying only…

  • Day 6 – Olema, CA – 40 miles

No one was in a real hurry to roll out quick this morning. It was overcast and a little misty, almost to the point of threatening to rain lightly overnight.  Also, we all had short riding days today – I was just going 40 miles to Olema, while the others were planning on riding to…

  • Day 5 – Bodega Bay, CA – 70 miles

First, a couple of other things I forgot to mention from last night. The bolts holding my water bottle cages had loosened during yesterday’s ride. I had hand-tightened them during the ride, and then used blue thread locker (which I carry!) to make sure they didn’t wiggle out anymore.

  • Day 4 – Manchester, CA – 85 miles

One again I was the first one to leave camp today. Just outside of the campground, the route leaves US101 and heads down CA1.

  • Day 3 – Leggett, CA – 50 miles

I woke up with the sun, as I always do when camping, and I was rolling out well before any of the other cyclists had started packing. I told Rex and Roger I’d wait for them at the restaurant in Myers Flat. But there was no restaurant there (ummm, maybe I should have checked inside…
